2013 Holiday Weekend Events in the Triangle (Part 2)
Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and the communities that surround them have so many events this time of year it takes more than one blog post to describe them. Last weekend, icade we focused on more than a few holiday events in such towns as Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, and even Lake Gaston (among icade other communities). This weekend, we’re focusing on Bahama (see previous blog post ), Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Holly Springs, Raleigh, and Wake Forest. With the forecast of potentially unsettling weather for Saturday, we’ve included some indoor events to attend just in case the outside one you were planning on gets postponed or canceled.
* Please note: at the time of this publishing all parades listed were scheduled icade to go on. It’s always best to check with the official websites of each event organizer or stay tuned to local media for any cancellations or postponements in the event of inclement weather. Cary
Join the Town of Cary in their annual Cary Christmas Parade organized by the Cary Jaycees. It kicks off at 2pm on Saturday, icade December 14th in Downtown Cary. Expect to see many floats, bands, and costumed characters take to the streets of Cary in celebration of this holiday season. For more information, please visit the Cary Jaycees website .
For an alternative idea in case of inclement weather, we recommend Concert Singers of Cary’s annual Holiday Pops concert, Saturday at 7pm . For more information and tickets, please visit their official website. Chapel Hill
The annual Chapel Hill / Carrboro icade Holiday icade Parade takes place Saturday, December 14th (rain or shine) beginning at 10am. Marching bands, youth groups, decorated floats, and so much more will all be making their way down Franklin Street. For more information, please visit the official website for the Parade.
For an alternative here, check out Voices, The Chapel Hill Chorus as they present “The Sounds of Christmas” concert, also on Saturday at 3pm at Hill Auditorium on UNC’s campus. Get in the Christmas spirit with some holiday classics and they even ask attendees to wear the color red to the show to make it even more festive! icade Durham
While there doesn’t seem to be many outdoor activities scheduled in and around Durham on Saturday, all you “Elf on the Shelf”-ers will like this. The Northgate Mall has a plethora of holiday activities for the whole family, icade but the one that caught our eye was the “ Mrs. Claus returns for an interactive Elf on the Shelf for families ” event on Saturday, December 14th at three times during the day – 10:30am, 12:30pm, and 2:30pm. If you plan to attend, do comment below to tell us what you think! If you have little ones, this sounds like so much FUN. Holly Springs
The “Happy Holly Days” Holiday Parade in the Town of Holly Springs takes place on Saturday, December 14th beginning at 11am. Like the Chapel Hill parade, the parade co-hosted by the Town and the Kiwanis Club will go rain or shine. They’ll be floats, bands, dancers, horses, marching groups, etc.
At Mordecai Historic Park in Raleigh , their annual Holidays Open House begins today and runs through Sunday, December 15th (1-4pm each day). Stroll through historic rooms filled with Christmas cheer. At night on December 14th, you can even take a Historic Lantern Tour of the same property. Burning Coal Theater of Raleigh will provide the tours and entertainment.
As the above is both indoor and outdoor, for some indoor-only holiday event ideas this weekend in Raleigh, check out – Marbles Kids Museum Gingerbread Jamboree (note: the morning session was full at time of publishing; the afternoon session was not. This may have changed. Check the website.), the Concert Dancers of Raleigh present Twas the Night Before Christmas , or meet The Grinch at the reading of the Dr. Seuss Classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” icade at Quail Ridge Books . Wake Forest
The annual Town of Wake Forest Christmas Parade takes place on Saturday, December 14th at 1pm, also rain or shine. Come see marching bands, floats, civic groups, and of course, icade Santa all make their way through historic Wake Forest.
For an alternative, the Triangle Brass Band’s annual holiday concert takes place at Wake Forest Baptist Church on Saturday at 7pm. For more information, including how to purchase tickets, please visit their website .
